Have fun and explore

Social program during the conference is a carefully planned entity to show you Finnish culture and good times throughout your stay. In the afternoons after the conference program, we will have several options for you to choose from to explore Finnish culture and city of Tampere or just relax. Some of the afternoon programs have an entrance fee but everything stays under 10 euros. Registration to the afternoon programs will be available on November 30th via the conference tool. For the evenings we have planned some special events that you don’t want to miss.

Klubi

Evening party

The best club in Tampere = Klubi! Looking for a place to have lunch or a nice cup of coffee, enjoy live music or dancing until 4 am? The answer is Klubi, the most active and versatile club in the city of Tampere. Klubi is located in an old red-brick customs house near the university and railway station.

Finlayson Palace

Gala dinner

The Finlayson Palace is situated in a scenic Wilhelm von Nottbeck park in the heart of Tampere. This historic building was completed 1899 and was carefully renovated for a fine dining restaurant mid 1980’s. Restaurant European-Scandinavian cuisine use also widely domestic raw materials from Finnish forests.

Afternoon program

Social programs during the afternoons are located around the city of Tampere and we have reserved two hours for every program. Some of the attractions might require some walking since public transportation don’t cover all the areas.  We recommend you to purchase a tourist day ticket for the bus if you are planning to take part in several of the social programs that locate a bit further away. Bus tickets cost 3 euros/ one way. You can find more information about the bus tickets on our web site under the title public transport.

Some of the programs have an entrance fee that varies between 2 – 9,5 euros. We will collect the payments before programs at meeting point in the University. For this reason we are requesting for you to reserve the amount of the possible entrance fee in cash.

Metso library tour - extra tour!

Tampere City main library is called Metso (the capercaillie), because it resembles the shape of the bird seen from above. It is located at the heart of Tampere in the middle of Hämeenpuisto. Tampere City Library is also the Regional Library of Pirkanmaa.

Linna building

Folklife Archives

Folklife archives is located at the Tampere university inside the School of Social Sciences and Humanities. The collections include sound recordings, photographs, records, musical instruments and manuscripts. The archives are primarily used by the research and teaching and is one of the largest folklife archives in Finland.

No entrance fee
Distance is very short since the archives is located at the University.

Moomin exhibition

Moomin exhibition

The Moomin exhibition is located near the University at Tampere Hall. The exhibition consist of  twelve boxes that showcase twelve moomin books that Tove Jansson wrote and illustrated. At the Tampere hall there is also a moomin shop and a reading library.

Koilliskeskus library

Koilliskeskus library tour

Koilliskeskus is a Northeast Regional Library of Tampere City Library, open in 2016. It is a wellness center where library, health clinics and youth center work in the same premises offering local residents a lively meeting place. While visiting Koilliskeskus, you can also hear all about Tampere City library Tietotori computer learning centers.

Lenin museum

Lenin museum tour

This unique museum is located at the same hall where Stalin and Lenin met for the first time in 1905. The exhibition takes you through the 20th century right until the cold war and the breakdown of the Soviet Union.  

Entrance fee is 8 euros and if we get a group of over ten people the cost will be 6 euros per person.
Distance from the university is 2 kilometers.

Rauhaniemi sauna and ice-swimming - new!

Rauhaniemi Public Saunas built in 1929. The beach and the buildings retain almost their original appearance. Ice-swimming facilities have been organised at Rauhaniemi since 1956 by Tampere Workers’ Swimming Club TaTU. Ice-swimming is a healthy activity which many Finns enjoy in wintertime. Since this is ice-swimming we suggest that you take with you a beanie and socks. You also need to have your own swimming suit and towel since there is no renting opportunity. Please note that the sauna is for both men and women. There are different dressing rooms but the sauna is for everyone.

Cost for sauna is 3,60 € for students if we can get 10 student in a group. Otherwise single payment is 6 €.

Come to OASIS and have a go with retro games. You have now a chance to experience various consoles and games during this two day event. Remember to relax and enjoy the flow of pixels through you. OASIS is a social learning, meeting and research space at the University of Tampere.

Megazone

Megazone laser game is for someone who is looking to have some active fun. Megazone is a non-contact and violence game so it is suited for almost everyone. The game area is a labyrinth kind combat track. We suggest that you wear comfortable clothes since this is an active game where you might shed some sweat. Also dark colored clothes are preferable so you don’t get spotted right away at the game. Further game instructions and details on the spot. Located at the city centre area.

pyynikki observation tower

The Pyynikki observation tower

This over 80 years old tower stands on top of the world’s largest esker over 150 meters above sea level. It offers a wonderful view over the entire city of Tampere. The tower café sells very popular doughnuts that are baked on the spot and served fresh.

To see the view from the top, the tower fee is 2 euros.

Linna University Library tour - extra tour!

Linna library serves thousands of patrons and is a part of an international research university. Linna is located at the University’s main campus. The library provides information, content and publishing services for researchers, teachers and students. Linna library offers a space that supports studying and learning.

No entrance fee.

The Finnish Museum of Games tour

The Finnish Museum of Games tells the story of how digital gaming in Finland started, how it developed over the years and how it made it to where it is now. The Finnish Museum of Games is focused on experiences: visitors will get to try the games in their real environments. Vapriikki Museum Centre also have several other museums which are all accessible for same price.

Cost for this tour is 6 euros for students and 12 euros for non-students.
Be prepared for 20 minute walk (1,6 km).
